FAITH OVER FEAR July 7, 2026: America at 250: Preserving the Founders’ Constitutional Balance of Power in Today’s World. Speaker: Elizabeth Lee Vliet MD.
After the SCOTUS rulings July 29 and 30, 2026, people on both sides of the political spectrum have been outraged at perceived abuses and what appear to be contorted rulings. How do we make sense of recent rulings in light of the Founders’ intent with the framework of checks and balances written into the Constitution? Are there actually silver linings missed in all the political “noise” on both sides? Dr. Vliet will discuss how these rulings illustrate the living constitutional system: Judiciary acts as referee to maintain balance of power. None of the three branches of our government have unlimited power — Executive energy is checked by Legislative deliberation and Judicial review. Legislative overreach OR inaction checked by Judiciary and Executive Orders. Judicial decisions can be altered by legislative actions to pass new laws & executive branch orders and agencies. Dr. Vliet discusses the enduring strength of the Founders’ design to provide us today with adaptability without losing core structural protections for liberty. And at the core of our Constitutional Republic is the role of citizens preserving this framework through informed engagement, political action, and pressing for legislative and judicial accountability to We The People, from whom consent to be governed is derived.
