The Patience of Job: What Does It Mean to be “Totally Humbled?”

Many have heard about the patience of Job, but do we ever stop to consider the total humbleness of Job? Like many today, Job suffered mostly alone in the trials he faced, with the exception of the support of his wife and some of his servants. Yet, even Job’s wife reached her limit and separated herself from him by challenging his belief. In Job 2:9 we read: Then his wife said to him, ‘Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!’”

Today we see a record number of drug overdoses, a record number of mental health problems and a record number of suicides. These problems escalate during times of isolation and suffering alone in silence. The Book of Job is a logical place to turn when you are struggling with health problems, job loss, isolation and loss of support. Reading Job provides the feeling of a friend going through these trials with you.

Many vaccine-injured are suffering silently alone and need help. They must be questioning, “Why me?” Many who made a stand against the Covid mandates are suffering alone and are in financial ruin. They must be also questioning, “Why me?” Job provides understanding and a reason for our struggles and pain in this world. E.W. Bullinger describes this as as being “the end of the Lord”, which is ultimately achieved in a contrite spirit. To have a contrite spirit means to have a deep sense of remorse for our sins and shortcomings, and to seek repentance and forgiveness from God. In other words, a contrite spirit is to be completely humbled before the Lord, accept His trials in our lives as part of His plan to strengthen our faith and our reliance on Hi. This is one of the foundational principles of being a Christian, and it is the Lord alone who brings us face to face with this divine truth.

Today’s host, military CBRN officer and student of Biblical prophecy, Major Mike Gary, explains his very personal story and how the Book of Job has related to his current life situation, and how studying Job has helped him navigate through these times of chaos, upheaval, uncertainty and financial loss.

Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;in all your ways acknowledge Him,and He shall direct your paths.” E.W. Bullinger’s companion book called The Book of Job will be referenced frequently to navigate this most precious Book of the Bible.
